Tooth Friendly Christmas Gifts
From significant gifts to stocking fillers, some suggestions from our Chelmsford dentists for a healthier Xmas
Anyone who has been in town in the last couple of weeks can’t help but have noticed a significant increase in the number of people around.
Yes, it’s that time of the year when we all go out shopping for Christmas presents for friends and family and possibly even work colleagues.
Some gifts will be easy because we know what people like. Others may be more of a guess and these are often the gifts that are traditionally given at Christmas, but also ones which are far from good for our teeth. We are talking, of course, about chocolates and other sugary presents. In today’s Blue Sky Dental blog then, we offer a few alternative suggestions for Christmas presents that are more beneficial for your teeth and oral health in general.
Electric toothbrush
Fewer and fewer people now use a manual toothbrush but some still do. Sometimes this is out of habit and others because of cost, although they are significantly more affordable these days. Most dentists now agree that an electric toothbrush is more beneficial for your teeth and gums as the rotating heads do much of the work of removing food and bacteria. If you know someone who is still using a manual toothbrush, this is a great opportunity to help them improve their oral health by treating them to one of these for Christmas.
Waterpik
We firmly believe that good old dental floss is the best way to clean efficiently between the teeth. It is cheap to do as well. Despite this, some people claim that they find it very difficult to do this every night and tend to leave it out of their everyday oral care regime. Omitting this is likely to lead to more instances of tooth decay and gum disease so we encourage anyone struggling to do this to see our dental hygienist who will show you how to do so correctly. If, for some reason, you feel that you really can’t floss, then using a waterpik might offer an alternative option. These blast fine jets of water between the teeth and aim to remove food and bacteria. Although dental floss is the preferred method for our Chelmsford patients to use, a waterpik is better than doing nothing at all.
Speciality teas
Hopefully, after the hectic Christmas lunch, most of us will find time to relax and wind down a bit in preparation for the new year. What better way to relax than in the traditional British way by having a nice cup of tea. Not just any old tea though, the type that contains tannins that tend to stain your teeth, but a selection of herbal teas. You can usually buy these as a gift set, or if you know the person’s preferences, make your own with a nice box for them.
Cheese selection
Chocolates are a popular gift at Xmas and a few are always nice to have. Often though, chocolates are given too freely and we end up eating far more than is good for us to the point where we may even eat them out of habit rather than enjoyment. As an alternative, why not buy them a gift of a cheese selection box. These are a very popular gift that is much better for your teeth than chocolate. In fact, eating a small piece of cheese at the end of a meal helps to rebalance the acidity in your mouth and helps to protect the tooth enamel.
Whiter Teeth
For a more significant gift, perhaps for those closer to you, why not offer them the gift of whiter teeth with our popular teeth whitening procedure? You could book this so that their teeth are white in time for the Christmas festivities or, if you prefer, book the appointment for the New Year. We are sure that once they have had their teeth whitened, they will be delighted with the results!
Facial aesthetics treatment
A popular alternative gift instead of (or as well as) a teeth whitening treatment is a facial aesthetics treatment. In the hands of our experienced team, wrinkles and lines can be eased and a healthier and younger looking skin can be achieved. A consultation can be arranged with one of our team to help you (or the recipient of the gift) get the results that they want.
We hope that this blog provides you with a few ideas for gifts for those around you. Give yourself the gift of a healthy mouth too by making sure that you have an appointment booked with us for your regular check up. You may also wish to consider a cosmetic dental treatment for yourself too. In either case, you can contact us by calling Blue Sky Dental on 01245 211070 and our team will be pleased to assist.
