Ringing In The New Year With A Smile Makeover

Get set for the spring and summer with top-rated cosmetic dentistry in Chelmsford.

Happy new year everyone and we hope that you all had a great Christmas break and are ready to get back into a more regular routine. While this can take a little time, it usually isn’t long before most of us have almost forgotten the break we have just had. Before long though, we will start to notice the buds on the trees and a hint of warmer days around the corner. Yes, despite this cold snap, spring and summer are not that far away.

The early part of the new year then gives patients of Blue Sky Dental time to consider any changes and improvements they would like to make to their smile ready for this. This might be little more than a bit of a ‘top up’ for teeth that are already ‘almost there’, or it might be a decision to make some significant changes and improvements; perhaps ones that you have been putting off for a while. In either case, let us take a look at the best way to move forwards.

Consultations

While we completely understand people exploring YouTube and other social media channels for ideas on ways to improve your smile, we don’t really recommend this other than as a general guide. There are some potentially dangerous DIY dental tips on social media that should be avoided at all costs. Even where they work, and most don’t, the longer term effects can be devastating. For example, home bleaching your teeth might make them whiter for a while, but it can really damage the nerves and enamel of your teeth, soon leaving them painful and prone to decay.

Even without these risks, there are a wide range of treatments that we can offer at our Chelmsford dentist and it is important that we ensure that you are a suitable candidate for them and to work out, together, a suitable treatment plan, sometimes known as a ‘smile makeover’. This might be a single treatment, or a series of treatments, depending on the condition of your teeth and your own personal requirements. We also need to check that your medical records are up to date before we carry out any procedure, so a consultation is a great place to start and also allows you to ask us questions too.

Oral health checks

In addition to your medical records being brought up to date, we will also check your oral health. This includes checks for decay and gum disease. Any problems we detect will need to be treated before any cosmetic work can start. There is little point, after all, in having a great looking smile if your teeth are starting to decay or becoming loose. Once your oral health is back on track, the cosmetic work can begin.

Smile makeovers

Occasionally, someone will contact us for a smile makeover without really being aware what one is. The truth is that what it consists of will depend on your needs and the most appropriate treatments. If your teeth are already almost perfect, you might need little more than a straightforward teeth whitening procedure. For many people though, a little extra might be needed. The following are some of the treatments we might offer you to help you get the smile that you want.

Dental implants

Not really a cosmetic procedure as such, but if you have a gap in your teeth, this not only impairs function but naturally, badly affects the way your smile looks. Other options are available, such as dentures, and these can work from an aesthetic point of view. We do believe that implants offer not only aesthetic but practical benefits too and will discuss the pros and cons with you so that you can make an informed choice.

Orthodontics

One reason we suggest that thinking about any improvements now is a good idea is that not all treatments offer immediate benefits. If your teeth are crooked, for example, they can’t just be ‘pushed’ back into place quickly. Not only would that be very uncomfortable but would damage the teeth and the bone in which they are placed as well. Teeth straightening takes time, although the length of this will vary, and relatively minor adjustments can now take place in just a few weeks using our range of cosmetic dental braces. The sooner you have your consultation with us, the sooner you can have an attractive and straight smile!

Teeth whitening

This is probably our most popular cosmetic treatment. It is effective, affordable, comfortable and convenient, with all bar the initial treatment being carried out by yourself at home under the guidance of our Chelmsford cosmetic dentists. We are able to adjust the whiteness to any level you wish, so those of you who might be concerned about their teeth looking ‘artificially white’ need not worry. In just a week or two, your discoloured or stained teeth can be revived and refreshed, providing you with a beautiful white smile.

Dental veneers

This is another treatment that can be used for producing whiter teeth and is usually used where discolouration is worse, or where there is other damage to the teeth, such as small chips, that spoil their appearance. While this does require some invasive work, the results are long lasting and most veneers can last for around ten years, if they are looked after.

If you have already thought about this, you have probably done plenty of reading and watching videos, but the only way to really find out how much your smile can be improved is by popping along to discuss it with us. Our dentists are friendly and helpful and will be able to offer advice to get you the smile of your dreams.
