Brighten Up Your Smile With Porcelain Veneers
Veneers at Blue Sky Dental – creating beautiful smiles!
Discoloured teeth are a problem for many people. They can be caused by a number of factors, including diet, smoking and general poor oral health care. Whilst some discolouration may be improved through better care or a professional clean from our Chelmsford dental hygienist; in many cases, this will not be sufficient to leave the patient with the best possible white smile.
The obvious first step to restore teeth to their former whiteness is to undergo a teeth whitening procedure. At Blue Sky Dental, we offer a comfortable and effective home whitening kit for this purpose. If your teeth have suffered badly from discolouration, and especially if they are also chipped or cracked, this may not be the best solution for you, however.
Teeth whitening consultation
Before any treatment commences, a consultation will be held at our Chelmsford dental clinic. As well as discussing any whitening procedure, we will also perform a thorough check of your oral health. Any problems with dental decay or gum disease will need to be treated before any whitening procedure can start.
We will offer our professional advice regarding the level of whitening you might expect from a teeth whitening procedure, and, if we feel that may be insufficient for your circumstances, we may offer teeth veneers as a whitening alternative.
Dental veneers are fine layers of porcelain which are used to replace discoloured or damaged surface enamel on the front of your visible teeth. Fitting these will require a procedure where a dental burr is used to remove the equivalent thickness from the front surface of your teeth. Impressions are then taken and used to produce your new veneers at a dental laboratory. This takes approximately a week or so and temporary veneers will be fitted to protect your teeth during this time.
Once the veneers have been returned to our practice, we will invite you for an appointment to fit them. Your temporary veneers will first of all need be removed, and the new veneers attached using a strong dental adhesive. Once attached, they will then be trimmed and polished to give you a natural attractive white smile.
Porcelain dental veneers may also be used, in some situations, for minor ‘orthodontic’ corrections; for example a diastema, or the gap between front teeth, may be closed using this method in some cases.
Your new veneers should last you for many years and are highly resistant to staining due to the non porous nature of the porcelain. You do, however, need to make sure to clean them and also to use floss between the teeth to help keep them healthy. You should also maintain your regular check ups with your local Chelmsford dentist.
