Four Ways That Dental Implants Offer A Superior Experience To Dentures
Our Chelmsford dentist discusses why so many patients choose this option to replace missing teeth.
Dentures have been around for a long time and have certainly improved, both in appearance and the level of comfort afforded, over time. Despite this, many denture wearers still struggle with them for a number of reasons.
In today’s Blue Sky Dental blog, we look at the ways in which dental implants are widely considered to be a superior option for replacing missing teeth.
Strength – Dental implants are incredibly strong, and the procedure rarely fails if performed by an experienced implant dentist such as those at our Chelmsford practice. The titanium implant provides a replacement tooth root which gives the new tooth its strength, allowing the patient to eat any food that they wish, without difficulty.
Stability – One of the most common complaints of denture wearers is that they have a tendency to move around in the mouth when speaking or eating. Whilst dentures are generally more secure than in the past, this is still not an uncommon problem, and one that can cause both embarrassment and inconvenience. Dental implants are firmly anchored into the jaw bone, and, providing that they are looked after correctly (see next section), provide a stable replacement tooth that will not move about, whatever you are doing.
Easy to clean – Dentures are fiddly to clean and have to be removed from the mouth to do so. There is also a risk of breaking them if you drop them during cleaning. Dental implants are very easy to keep clean and should be looked after in exactly the same way that you should your natural teeth. Quality brushing, flossing and regular dentist and hygienist checks should keep your dental implants strong and healthy.
Longevity – With dentures, you may have to return to the dentist periodically to make sure that they are still fitting correctly. Where they are not, adjustments may need to be made. Once dental implants have been placed and are fully integrated into the bone, your implants should last for a minimum of twenty years, and possibly many more, without the need for any additional work being performed on them.
At Blue Sky Dental, we offer our Chelmsford patients both individual implant placement or multiple, where a number of adjacent teeth need to be replaced. Their flexibility allows them also to be used both for full arch replacement and to stabilise dentures, preventing some of the problems associated with dentures, mentioned earlier.
