‘Old’ Looking Teeth

‘Old’ Looking Teeth

If your teeth are giving you an aged appearance, now is the time to act!

As we get older, we expect certain of our physical features to change, most of which simply add to the appearance of ageing.

Whilst some are unavoidable, and would require fairly drastic cosmetic surgery to correct, we can help counter some of the effects in our facial area; the most visible of all.

Lines and wrinkles

Many people are now aware of cosmetic facial treatments that can help to smooth out wrinkles and lines on the skin and dermal fillers which can be used to firm up thinning lips. We will return to these in another blog but for now, suffice to say that both Botox and dermal fillers are available for our Chelmsford patients at Blue Sky Dental. Simply call us and ask us for more information. However, today we will take a quick look at our cosmetic dentistry options, designed to help lift the appearance of your teeth.

Ageing teeth

Whilst most people identify facial ageing features with the skin; the condition of our teeth also adds, quite significantly, to our appearance. However, there are a number of cosmetic dental treatments that are available to help you to reverse this.

Generally speaking, these procedures fall into three different categories:

1.  Discoloured teeth – Even with good care, our teeth will take on a darker appearance as we get older. This is caused by the inner part of the tooth darkening. The only way to restore the whiteness is to use a teeth whitening procedure. However, in cases of severely discoloured teeth, dental veneers may be offered as a more permanent solution.

2.  Crooked teeth – Especially if we have a missing tooth or two, even rear ones which can’t be seen; this can start a ‘domino effect’ of teeth moving until they appear crooked. Once, this would have required unsightly metal braces, but with modern invisible orthodontics such as Invisalign, teeth can now be straightened with more discretion and comfort.

3.  Lost teeth – The older we get, the more likely it is that we will have lost a tooth. This can happen for any number of reasons; whether accidentally, or through dental problems such as tooth decay or advanced gum disease, or periodontitis. When a tooth is lost, dentures have previously been used; but the fact that these can move around in the mouth means that some people are reluctant to use them. We are proud to be a leading implant dentist in the Chelmsford area and offer either direct dental implant placement to replace missing teeth, or, for those who prefer to keep their dentures, we can use dental implants to stabilise and keep them held securely in place.

If you are unhappy with your teeth and feel that they are adding to the ageing appearance of your face, why not talk to the team at Blue Sky Dental and see what we can do to give your smile a youthful lift?
