How our patients can help to ensure we run an efficient practice

Cancelled appointments can cause emergency patients to suffer for longer.

As dentists, we have undergone many years of advanced training to ensure that our patients not only have healthy teeth and gums, but also increasingly, teeth that look great too. Some procedures, such as dental implant placement also require extra years of training to ensure top care for our patients. In addition to our medical skills, we are also trained to remain calm and to help all patients, including those who are afraid of the dentist, to relax during their dental procedure.


At Blue Sky Dental  we try to run an efficient and effective dental practice. This not only makes for a pleasant working environment which helps us to remain calm, a particularly useful asset for nervous patients, but also makes for a better patient experience too. There are a few things though, which patients can do to help us with this.

Cancelled appointments

Sometimes cancelled appointments simply can’t be helped, and, at your local Chelmsford dental practice, we accept and acknowledge that this is the case. What we do ask though is that patients give us as much notice as possible so that we can schedule another patient into your spot. Even if the appointment has to be cancelled due to a genuine last minute emergency, please still phone us to let us know.

Cancelled appointments with no notification can delay the treatment of someone who has rung in with a severe toothache. Whilst we try to fit people in as soon as we can, this can sometimes be a few hours, which is a long time if you are in pain. By letting us know when you can’t make an appointment, as soon as you can, we may be able to fit emergency patients in sooner. Remember, it could even be you next time.

Emergencies caused by ignoring previous advice

Patients sometimes ignore our advice, whether to simply improve their oral health regimen or allow us to perform a minor procedure to prevent more significant damage. Whilst it is the patient’s right to refuse treatment, this may well result in the same patient needing an emergency appointment later on when they are in real pain. Preventative dental care is important and if a procedure is recommended, it is for our patient’s benefit and we recommend that this advice is not ignored.

Abusive patients

Although you may have a genuine dislike, or fear, of visiting the dentist, it should also be  remembered that, above all, we are human beings and are here only to help you to keep your teeth and gums healthy, and in the process, prevent a lot of pain. However much you dislike visiting the dentist though, there is simply no excuse for abusive behaviour. Thankfully, incidences of this are very rare at our Chelmsford dentists.

We do take into consideration that some people have a genuine and very real fear of the dentist and we don’t expect you to be our best friend or engage in small talk if you don’t wish to. What we do expect though is to be allowed to treat you without abuse or even threats of violence.
